SMALL INDEXABLE INSERTS, BIG CHALLENGE?

Small indexable inserts, big challenge?

topicIcon Machines

Small indexable inserts for small tools are very popular. In practice, however, machining unshaped indexable inserts with an IC of just a few millimeters is quite tricky. The challenges lie both in grinding and in the automation of the entire process. The critical points in automation are the extremely low weight of such parts and the small clamping surfaces. Both of these factors mean that the parts are frequently lost.

Agathon’s Leo Peri is the perfect machine for machining such parts with an IC of at least 3.96 mm. Why perfect? First of all, the Leo Peri is incredibly efficient. It is a pure peripheral grinding machine that masters what it has to do in a first-class manner. It is compact, inexpensive, easily accessible, offers a clear view of the interior during teaching and works with high precision. In addition, the diameter of the cup wheel is only 250 millimeters. This diameter is completely sufficient for such applications. And the corresponding grinding tools are of course cheaper to replace than for larger cup wheel diameters.

Furthermore, the Leo Peri has a material handling system in the automation that deals excellently with the above-mentioned challenges. Behind this is a camera system that provides accurate data for high-precision handling of small indexable inserts. You want to learn more about this handling? Do you have such small inserts to machine regularly? Contact us, we will be happy to advise you: sales@agathon.ch
